As many as 69 persons were injured in two separate road accidents occurred at Koodal near Konni and at Maramon near Kozhencherry on Tuesday.
As many as 35 persons were injured when a speeding private bus, bound for Punalur from Pathanamthitta, rammed a Kottayam-bound lorry carrying timber from Pathanapuram at Koodal on the Punalur-Muvattupuzha Road on Tuesday afternoon.
The condition of five persons who sustained head injuries in the mishap is said to be serious.
They have been rushed to the Government Medical College Hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam, the police said.
The seriously injured admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital were identified as Shylaja (46) and Mini Jose, according to the police.
Kuttan Pillai (75), Jishnu (27), and Akhil (24), the other seriously injured, have been admitted to the Government Medical College in Kottayam.
All the others have been rushed to the General Hospital in Pathanamthitta and to various private hospitals in Kozhencherry, Konni and Pathanapuram.
According to the police, the driver of the speeding private bus lost control on the vehicle and rammed the lorry that was coming in the opposite direction.
The bus was stopped only after hitting a few wayside trees, the police said.
The Koodal police have registered a case.
In another mishap, 34 passengers were injured when a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus hit a truck carrying empty cooking gas cylinders from behind at Maramon, near Kozhencherry, on the TK Road in the forenoon.
Two of the injured — Robin, 23, and Saji, 42 — both from Thiruvalla, have been admitted to the District Hospital in Kozhencherry.
The others injured in the accident were given first-aid at various hospitals in Kozhencherry.
The Koipram police have registered a case.
