Allegedly Drunk Hayward Man Crashed into Car, Attempted to Flee Scene

A Hayward man, who was involved in a fatal car crash early Saturday morning, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter while driving drunk, police said.

On Sunday, police identified the victim as Dave Go, a 19-year-old Hayward resident and student of San Luis Obispo-based California Polytechnic State University.

According to a department press release, the collision occurred at roughly 2:50 a.m. at the intersection of Hesperian and Eden Shores boulevards.

Police said a 20-year-old female driver, whose car was also occupied by Go, had stopped on northbound Hesperian for a red signal. However, the suspect, Paul Butler, 28, who was speeding and didn't see the stopped car, rammed his vehicle into its rear end.

Butler attempted to run away from the accident site but was nabbed by Hayward police a few blocks away. Officers determined that he was intoxicated, the statement reported.

Go was transported to Eden Medical Center with major injuries where he died. The female driver, also of Hayward, was treated for minor injuries and released, police said.
