Panama-Colombia border area hit by earthquake

An earthquake hit an area on the Panama-Colombia border Tuesday evening, the U.S. Geological Survey says.

The quake, which was initially described as magnitude 6.1 but later listed at 5.9, struck at a depth of about 10 kilometres, the service said.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured. The earthquake happened in the dense Darien Gap jungle area between the two countries.
